Step‑by‑Step Docking Instructions

  1. Request docking permission from the station or landing zone using the Comms panel.

  2. Follow the docking guidance markers that appear on your HUD after permission is granted.

  3. Approach slowly and line up your ship with the docking port.

  4. Use strafing controls to fine‑tune your alignment.

  5. Match rotation if the docking collar is spinning.

  6. Reduce speed to under 10 m/s as you close the final distance.

  7. Hold position until the clamps engage and the docking completes.

Important Docking UI Cues to Watch For

These are the parts new players miss because the UI barely stands out. The video highlights all of them clearly.

  • Green alignment dots
These confirm that your ship is lined up correctly. If they are red, adjust your position until they turn green.

  • Small distance and rotation numbers
These appear near the docking port indicator and tell you how far off center or off rotation you are. They are very small on the screen, so the video makes them much easier to understand.

  • When in doubt, hold N

Sometimes the docking automation just refuses to kick in. It happens to everyone. If you are already close to the port and lined up reasonably well, you can hold the N key and the game will take over and finish the docking for you.

Final tip: go slow, make small adjustments, and trust the indicators. Docking feels complicated at first, but it becomes second nature after a few tries

The video above shows the below information much more clearly in my personal opinion, so it is worth watching before you try docking on your own or planning on just using the written instructions below. I'm a visual learner, which is why I created the video.
